Guns for how Arkansas hunts and shoots
Two seasons run this state's gun counters. From late November the Grand Prairie fills with mallards, and people from Stuttgart to Jonesboro wade into flooded oak flats before daylight with a 12-gauge and a pocket of steel shot. A couple of weeks earlier, modern gun deer season empties offices from Texarkana to the Ozarks. The guns that sell here follow that calendar: camo semi-autos and pumps with 3-inch and 3½-inch chambers, bolt rifles in .30-06, .308 and .270, a tight-choked turkey gun for April, and a .22 for squirrels in the hardwoods.
Arkansas law keeps buying simple. There is no permit to purchase, no registration, no waiting period, no magazine limit and no state ban on any class of rifle, and cities and counties cannot add their own rules (Ark. Code 14-16-504). A person who may lawfully own a handgun can carry it without a licence, though the State Police still issue one for people who want it. The details are on our Arkansas gun laws page.
